thanksgiving.

“Giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in who we have redemption and forgiveness of sins.” (Col 1:12-14)
Thanksgiving comes upon us like the breaking of dam. With a sudden crack, it collapses and the waters of the Holiday season pour forth and threaten to drown us. All that flood of chaos we call Christmas starts with Thanksgiving. Suddenly there are meals to prepare, parties to host, gifts to buy, wrap and give
In the hustle and bustle of it all, we forget what Thanksgiving is all about—thanks giving. Let’s take time this year to stop what we are doing, go to a quiet place, shut the world out, and get on our knees and give thanks to the Father.
We all have so much to be thankful for, but most of all we are thankful that he “has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.”
We cannot thank ourselves for this incredible miracle of salvation, this resurrection from the death-life of sin into the abundant life of Christ. If it were up to us, we would have remained in our sin.
We can thank those who told us about Jesus—parents, preachers, Sunday school teachers, friends or whoever it might be, but ultimately they had nothing to do with it. They brought us a message that they had received themselves from someone else.
In November, we can and we must give thanks to the Father who redeemed us and forgave our sins. We can thank the Father who transferred us from the death-kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of Christ!
