the surpassing worth.

“Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord” (Philippians 3:8).

If I had to summarize Christianity in two words “knowing Christ” would be it. The forgiveness of sins, the empowerment of grace, and the hope of perfection in heaven can all be summed up in two words: knowing Christ.

It has become cliché to say that Christianity isn’t about a religion but about a relationship; but it is so true. Being saved is coming to the realization that everything you have and everything you are is worthless when compared to “the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.”

As we prepare our hearts and minds for our revival coming up on October 18-21, it is my prayer that our manner of life would be worthy of the gospel of Christ (Philippians 1:27).

It will be my privilege to host two men at Elk Lick who understand and live “the surpassing worth.” You are not going to want to miss a single night of this revival.

Kaleb Scharmahorn is a talented musician and an even more talented worship leader. He will be leading worship during each service as well as preaching on Friday night. He currently serves as worship pastor at Bridgepointe Church in Owensboro. Before that he served at Hardin Baptist Church. Kaleb is originally from Benton.

Tyler Patton is a passionate preacher from Marion, Illinois. He is currently attending Southern Seminary. He has served as an interim youth pastor in Auburn, Alabama and also with the North American Mission Board in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Both these guys are as close as brothers to me. They live what they preach.

Saturday night, weather permitting, we will be having a bonfire and services outside. So come at 5:00 for chili and roasted hot dogs. Otherwise, the services will begin at 6:30 each night. The Sunday service will be during our regular 11:00 am worship.

As we approach this time, invite everyone you know and continue to petition God to prepare our hearts. Then be prepared to see God bless us.
